Overview
Jenzabar One merges a student information system with the ERP functions a campus back office needs: finance, human resources, financial aid, billing, and advancement. The pitch is a single system of record for the whole institution, licensed module by module so a college can take what it needs and leave the rest.
Where Jenzabar One comes from
Boston, 1998. Jenzabar was founded that year and grew by consolidating several long-standing campus administrative software vendors, whose systems then lived on for years as the Jenzabar CX and EX product lines. The company is still privately held and still works only in higher education. Jenzabar One arrived as the unified successor to those older lines and is where development now happens; customers on CX and EX are being steered toward it.
External validation came in October 2024, when Jenzabar One was named a Leader in the IDC MarketScape for North America Higher Education SaaS and Cloud-Enabled Student Information Systems. For that year the company reported 134 institutional selections across its product range.
What it covers
Jenzabar Student is the academic core: admissions, registration, academic records, advising, and retention workflows. Around it the platform adds financial aid, student billing and accounts, finance (general ledger and payables), human resources and payroll, fundraising and advancement, analytics, and a campus self-service portal. That combination makes it a full higher-education ERP system rather than a standalone SIS, even though every module is licensed separately.
Typical customers
Small and midsize US institutions: private nonprofit colleges, faith-based schools, community colleges, and graduate and professional schools. Lean IT departments are the norm in that segment, and Jenzabar's argument is breadth from a single education-only vendor with hosted operations. Nothing in the portfolio is sold outside the education sector.
Deployment and pricing
Cloud or vendor-hosted is the standard route; on-premises remains available for institutions whose policies or infrastructure demand it. Licensing is modular, with both subscription and perpetual options according to the vendor. No price lists are published, and the real number depends on enrollment, module mix, and hosting choice, with implementation services stacked on top. Our ERP cost guide breaks down the cost blocks worth budgeting for before the first vendor call.
Who should look at it
Focus carries the argument. A vendor that sells to nobody but colleges, and covers nearly every administrative function a small campus runs, is a different proposition from a horizontal suite with an education edition. For institutions between a few hundred and a few thousand students, Jenzabar One stands as a credible alternative to Ellucian Colleague and Anthology Student, often with a lighter operational footprint. The counterweights: Jenzabar is smaller than its chief competitors, which matters more for a long-term platform bet than for a tool purchase, and the thinner integration ecosystem means unusual integration wishes should be priced as custom work from day one. Institutions still on CX or EX face a migration with data conversion and retraining, whatever the sales language calls it. Large research universities belong on a different shortlist.
